Oxford reading tree(以下ORT)で多読をしたいけれど、1冊をだた読むだけで無く、もっと活用できないかな?と思われませんか?せっかく手に取るのだから、しっかりと身につけたいですよね。
自宅で子どもとORTをたくさん読み、子どもが小学生時に英検3級に合格したのは、英語の多読のおかげです。当時は、ただ読むことだけにしか気が回らなかったけれど、今ならこんなことをしたかったなぁ、と思うことがあります。それは、「英語で質問をする」と言うことです。
絵本の理解度も分かりますし、英語でうまく答えられなかったとしても、英語力は育ちます。無意識に頭の中に貯まっていくので、とても良い方法の一つです。
子どもに、毎日” If you don’t brush your teeth, you’ll get cavites.と語りかけていました。始めは日本語と交互に。英語の意味と、文の内容がリンクしたと感じたら、英語のみで。子どもが、学校で、英語の先生から「知っている英語を答えてみましょう」と言われたときに、思わず口から” If you don’t brush your teeth, you’ll get cavities.” と出てきて、先生も驚いた、と言う話を聞きました。(先生も、生徒にこんな台詞をいられると思っていなかったので驚きますよね)これはほんの一例ですが、なかなか英語の発語が無かったとしても、繰り返し語りかけることの重要さが分かると思います。
先ずは簡単なフレーズから。徐々にフレーズの数や、内容の難易度を上げていく事で、自宅で英語のレッスンを楽しくできるのです。
このORTは、レベルが細かく分かれているので、ステージ1から徐々に読み進めていくことがおすすめですが、今回ご紹介する、ORT stage7でも絵に関連する単語を言ってみたり、やり直し英語の教材として、これからご紹介する本の内容についての英語での質問に答えてみたり、この文を参考に、色々な文を作って言ってみたり、1冊で十分に英語のレッスンが出来ます。

ある日、学校の運動場にガラクタが捨てられていました。古い物を見つけ、先生が、どう使われていたのかを教えてくれます。学校に、みんなの家にあった古い物を持ち寄ります。Biffたちは、自分たちのミニチュアの家を学校に持っていきますが、アクシデントで、家の屋根が壊れてしまいます。魔法を心配しましたが、Magic Keyが子どもたちを昔の家に連れて行ってくれました。そこにあった家の屋根も壊れています。なんだかミニチュアの家と関係していそうですね。
